'The Black Parade'

My Chemical Romance su album 'Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge' prodali u tiraži od 2,5 milijuna primjeraka, čime su postali jedan od važnijih faktora u životima tinejdžerske publike. Njihova mješavina punka i melodičnog popa pokazala se kao puni pogodak

Nakon takvog uspjeha pritisak uoči izdavanja narednog albuma obično raste do maksimuma, jer tiraže u toj situaciji postaju jedino mjerilo vrijednosti, a trajanje bendova u istoj kategoriji je turbo kratko. Ovise isključivo o odrastanju svojih fanova, dakle period koji se može rastegnuti najviše na pet godina, nakon kojeg slijedi best of kompilacija i zaborav.

Sudeći po 'The Black Parade', My Chemical Romance su odlučili napraviti korak kojim će izbjeći taj prepoznatljivi scenarij i cijelu priču staviti u potpuno drugačiji kontekst. Naime, evoluirali su brže nego njihova publika. Pravi primjer hodanja po rubu.

'The Black Parade' je doslovce parada unutar koje su sabijena najmanje tri desetljeća rocka i zatim centrifugirana do nove dimenzije (ne)prepoznatljivosti. Tako 'Mama' krene od besmrtne Kurt Weillove glazbene platforme 'Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)' koju su proslavili The Doors, da bi završila u lucidnoj mješavini koja do bola podsjeća na finale albuma 'The Wall' Pink Floyda, odnosno pjesme 'The Trial' i 'Outside The Wall'. Tako nešto se ipak nije očekivalo od emo punkera koji do posljednjih detalja paze na svoj izgled i frizuru.

Stari fanovi će sigurno naći prigovor na ovaj album, ali The Chemical Romance su zakucali i poentirali priču točno tamo gdje treba. Napravili su ogromnu distancu od samih sebe i onoga što su predstavljali s 'Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge'. Zagrabili su široki glazbeni spektar i dokazali da dobro korespondiraju unutar toga. Od melodičnog punka su ostali obrisi koji se više osjećaju u žestini koja je stilski bliža hard rocku i heavy metalu druge polovice osamdesetih.

Pjesma 'Teenagers' je dobra sprdačina, ali je glazbeno izvrsno ukomponirana u himnični rock na kojem su svojevremeno Kiss i Twisted Sister zgrnuli milijune. Iako to nije jedina pjesma uronjena u glam metal. 'House Of Wolves' je produkt sparivanja Kissove 'Detroit Rock City' i The White Stripesa, koliko to bilo udaljeno jedno od drugog, u aranžmanu My Chemical Romancea ista stvar drži vodu.




Najveća zamjerka je popriličan broj balada koje su skrojene u stilu onoga što su australski Jet predstavljali u vrijeme objavljivanja albuma 'Get Born'. Sve u svemu, ipak je to solidan i u svakom slučaju zanimljiv iskorak grupe koja je ovakvim albumom sebi osigurala ozbiljnije shvaćanje, kako kod publike, tako i kod konkurencije.

Produkciju koju potpisuju Rob Cavalo i My Chemical Romance je svakako posljednji doseg moderne rock produkcije; prštavo, žestoko, kompresirano i radiofonično.


Three cheers for sweet revenge




Odličan nastavak u žešćem ritmuNakon izlaska njihovog prvog albuma "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love", My Chemical Romance svi su trpali u isti koš s bendovima tipa Finch ili Thursday. Možda su tada i imali povoda za takvo što, no novim albumom "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge", My Chemical Romance su pokazali da imaju zvuk koji je teško usporediti s tipičnim bendovima te sorte.

Ovaj bend zanimljivog imena, na koje ih je inspirirao uratkom Irvinea Welsha ("Trainspotting"), nastao je u New Jerseyju. Njihov prvi album je sasvim uredno spadao u kategoriju ovog novog emo vala koji u zadnje vrijeme preplavljuje tinejdžerske uši. Nakon proboja na jače tržište, uspjeli su potpisati ugovor s major diskografskom kućom i tako dobili mogućnost svirke na brojnim atraktivnim festivalima i uz već renomirane autore. Vjerujem da im je priznanje i samo to što sviraju uz bok s autorima tipa No Use For A Name, Dropkick Murphys, Strung Out i sličnima na ovogodišnjem Warped Touru.


Ovim albumom, My Chemical Romance su se odmakli od klasičnog emo zvuka i unijeli su u svoje pjesme brže punk ritmove i 'ajmo reć' metal rifove. Te gitarske metalaste solaže su potpuno promijenili koncept pjesama te više ni po čemu ne upadaju u klišeizirane pjesme koje bismo trebali slušati suznih očiju. Slušajući te melodije i pjevačev glas uistinu se možete prebaciti u taj svijet u kojem se oni nalaze kada pišu svoje pjesme. Nekima se zasigurno neće svidjeti takav stenjajući vokal, no meni se savršeno uklopio u srcedrapajuće tekstove i glazbu.

Melodije i pojedini refreni su zaista 'catchy', tako da se nakon nekoliko slušanja konstantno vraćam na nekoliko pjesama što su me najviše zarazile. Takav je i njihov drugi singl, "Helena" koji govori o smrti bake dvojice članova benda. Slažem se, malo sick tematika, ali po meni je to jedna od najboljih emocore pjesama dosad. Iako se u pjesmama osjeća utjecaj Thursdayja, ali i Iron Maidena i The Curea, tu i tamo neki dijelovi vuku na početak nekog pop pjesmuljka, kao, recimo, početak "You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison", no uključivanje distorzirane gitare sve promijeni. Kao prvi singl su odabrali "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" koja je još jedna od onih čije se melodije tako brzo uvuku pod kožu.

Naravno, ima i slabijih točaka među ovih trinaest novih stvari, no morat ćete se potruditi da ih nađete. Ukratko, jedan izvrstan album koji je dokazao da emo muzika ne mora biti gotovo uvijek zamorna i da može privući i drugu publiku uz vrištave emo curice i namrgođene emo dječake. Ustvari, možda se takvima ovaj album i ne svidi toliko. Sve u svemu, album svakako vrijedan slušanja. Meni je svakim slušanjem sve draži.
